FAQ
It all began back in the mid 1990s when the Resident Service Coordinator from the Highland House Apartments in Whitefield, NH, which is managed by The Caleb Foundation, Inc., saw the need for additional services for the elderly at the apartment complex. She felt that if the Highland House residents needed additional help, so must the elderly living out in the community. With grant money from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Faith In Action the Caleb Interfaith Program was born. The Program was established in October 1995. Currently the Caleb Interfaith Program consists of two part-time paid staff members and over 100 Caleb Interfaith Volunteers. The Program serves over 230 elderly clients.
-Neighbors helping neighbors through their congregations and communities;
-People with a genuine concern for older impaired and/or disabled individuals;
-Men, women and young adults trained to give non-medical support to the homebound.
Volunteer caregivers are carefully trained to assist the elderly in ways such as: errands, friendly visits, shopping, light housekeeping, reading and writing, telephone reassurance, business tasks, transportation and resolving other needs.
Anyone can request assistance for a friend, family member or neighbor. Congregations and community groups, senior centers, home health or social service agencies, hospitals and the in-need adult also make referrals to the program. The only requirement is that the older adult must be 60 years or older to qualify for the program.
There is no fee (no cost) for the client when volunteer care giving services are provided. As a nonprofit organization, The Caleb Interfaith Program, is dependent upon funding and gifts from individuals, organizations, towns, businesses and foundations.
Every contribution makes a difference, whether it be time, materials or a financial gift. All material and financial contributions are fully tax deductible. Not only are the material and financial contributions important but the contribution of time is also important. The Caleb Interfaith Program is ALWAYS looking for those special people, that want to give of themselves, to help an older adult.
